Wowee my first blog post… ever, and on the shiny new Mohunky.com. It didn’t feel like I’d ever finish this site! Though I didn’t exactly make my life easy, like, with one of those simple clean single page portfolios. Where’s the fun in that huh?
Anyway, that’s not what this post is about! This post is about my Designers Toolbox and how you guys can help me to help you all.
I used to think of myself as a ’self taught’ designer, but it occured to me the other day that isn’t such an accurate term.Labelling myself as self taught kind of feels like I’m cheating everyone out of credit. I believe ‘community taught’ would be a more honest description of my learning curve. Sure I had a little design education back at college, but that was followed by a long old gap of design nothingness. Luckily everything I’d missed out on was spread across the web ripe for the picking, supplied by you wonderful design community peeps! Thousands of useful tutorials and blog posts everywhere I looked. Though I quickly found I was missing important things and others were done a hundred times over.
I fully intend to repay the favour to everyone that I’ve learnt from, by slowly filling the toolbox with relevant day to day resources that you can all get too quickly and easily.
I also want to help out the people that are in the same position I was, by posting tried and tested tutorials and other goodies that I really wanted at the time.
To kick start this project, it’d be great if any of you fellow designers could lend me another favour to stack on top of the sturdy pile already owed. Drop me ideas of some invaluable resources you use on a daily basis, let me know a cool site to add to the links section, suggest a tutorial, or even send me one of your own tutorials to post up.
And of course, let me know what you think of the toolbox already, would you bookmark it? Done a thousand times before already? Let me know!
